Chelsea tipped to complete "mind-boggling" summer transfer due to Roman Abramovich

Chelsea tipped to complete “mind-boggling” summer transfer due to Roman Abramovich

Chelsea will not enter the new season without completing a ‘mind-boggling’ transfer, says former Blues striker Tony Cascarino.

Roman Abramovich is yet to splash the cash this summer despite Thomas Tuchel delivering the Champions League, a top-four finish and an FA Cup in four months at Stamford Bridge.

Linked to almost every big name going – from Erling Haaland to Raphael Varane – Chelsea are known to be big spenders, like when they backed Frank Lampard last summer with a £200million warchest, before sacking him in January.

Chief negotiator Marina Granovskaia has masterminded deals for Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Thiago Silva, but this summer has only seen outgoings despite being the Blues being tipped as Premier League title contenders.

Cascarino, though, believes ‘a storm is brewing’ at Stamford Bridge due to their lack of actively so far.

The 58-year-old told talkSPORT : “Chelsea have earned a lot of money in the last year or so, with the Champions League and selling Eden Hazard.

“I cannot believe they’re not going to break the bank and sign someone like [Erling] Haaland.

“They are going to do a really big transfer, in my opinion.

“It’s been so quiet, the storm is coming – because Roman has always done it, he’s always backed the club.”

Haaland is wanted by almost every elite club

The ex-Blues hitman added: “I would be absolutely gobsmacked if they go in with the squad they’ve got today, even though they are European champions.

“[Olivier] Giroud has gone, Tammy [Abraham] is rumoured to be leaving as well, they’re making space,” he said.

“For them to do that, they are planning a mind-boggling transfer, and I think it will be Haaland.

“They’re going to offer big money for somebody and I suspect it would be him.”

Should Abramovich pay up for Haaland this summer or wait another year for his £68million release clause to become active? Comment your thoughts below.

While Haaland appears to be Chelsea’s no. 1 striking priority, fellow Bundesliga goal-lover Robert Lewandowski has been linked.

The Poland international, who scored three goals in three games at Euro 2020, is represented by agent Pini Zahavi, who the Blues have reportedly held talks with.

Bayern Munich, however, are standing firm and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, chairman of the executive board of the Bavarians has already quashed speculation of the club selling their 32-year-old star, who recently broke Gerd Muller’s record by scoring 41 in a single Bundesliga season.

The Bayern chief said to Sport1 in May: “Sure he stays. Who sells a player that scores 60 goals a year?”

Another Bundesliga marksman linked has been Stuggart’s Sasa Kalajzdic, who is open to a move on certain conditions.

Also linked with Spurs, the Austrian striker told Kicker : “I don’t think about it. I’m here [on holiday], having fun with friends and preparing for the season.

“If something impressed me, I would do it, but that would have to come first.”

Abraham has been heavily linked with a move to West Ham United, but The Sun recently reported that Arsenal had moved ahead of the Irons and rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign him.
