Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed when the players who reached the finals of Euro 2020 and the Copa America will return for pre-season training with Manchester United.
That group includes star signing Jadon Sancho, who was announced as United’s second signing of the summer transfer window on Friday.
The Red Devils finally brought their long pursuit of Sancho to an end by agreeing a £72million deal with Borussia Dortmund, a fee decided on during Euro 2020.
While the agreement between the clubs was being reached, Sancho was with the England national team as they reached the final of their summer tournament.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed Jadon Sancho’s expected arrival date at Manchester United
Despite many calling on Gareth Southgate to make the winger a key part of his England side, Sancho struggled for game time.
The 21-year-old started just one game, the thrashing of Ukraine in the quarter-finals, and made cameo substitute appearances in two others.
Though he spent most of his time on the bench this summer, Sancho is set to immediately become United’s first-choice right winger.
He starred for Borussia Dortmund after joining the Bundesliga side from Manchester City, scoring 50 goals and notching 64 assists in all competitions during his four-year stay at Signal Iduna Park.
The right wing is where Solskjaer has found the most trouble in trying to create the perfect attacking combination for the Red Devils.
Dan James and Anthony Martial have failed to prove they can be long-term options, while Mason Greenwood is understood to have hopes of transitioning back into a central striker role.
United’s second match of pre-season suggested that the boost of Sancho’s arrival could not come soon enough for the Premier League hopefuls.
Solskjaer has changed formation to a 4-3-3 system, but the outing against QPR at Loftus Road went disastrously wrong for the visitors.

Charlie Austin quickly cancelled out Jesse Lingard’s opener, before a double from Lyndon Dykes and a strike from Moses Odubajo saw United humbled by their Championship opposition.
Sancho was not part of the squad that travelled to face Mark Warburton’s men, having been given extra time off following his summer exploits.
And following the defeat, Solskjaer confirmed that United fans will have to wait a little bit longer before seeing their new man in action.
Along with England team-mates Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford, as well as Brazilian midfielder Fred, Sancho is not due back at Carrington until the first week of August.
“The English players and Fred, the ones who played Euros and Copa America and went all the way to the finals, needed a break as well, they’re back with us in about 10 days’ time,” said Solskjaer.
That would put Sancho’s arrival date at around 3 August, ensuring he will miss the friendlies against Brentford on 28 July and Preston North End on 31 July.
Solskjaer would be expected to hand Sancho some pre-season game time in his side’s final friendly before the new campaign gets underway with the visit of Leeds to Old Trafford.
If that is the case, Sancho can expect to pull on a United shirt for the first time in the friendly against Everton on 7 August.
