The A2 Shore Road in County Antrim has reopened after a serious crash in the early hours of this morning.
The route was shut in both directions between Newtownabbey and Carrickfergus due to a serious road traffic collision.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) were at the scene and local diversions were in place. They said the was likely to remain closed for some time.
PSNI officers advised road users to allow extra time for journeys.
Roads and traffic monitoring service Inrix first reported the crash 0.12am. In an update at 0.56am Inrix said: “A2 Shore Road in both directions closed due to accident from Neills Lane (County Antrim) to Jordanstown Road (Newtownabbey).”
An alert on TrafficWatchNI reads: “Road users are advised that A2 is closed between Newtownabbey and Carrickfergus due to a serious road traffic collision.
“PSNI are on scene and local diversions are in place, and the road is likely to remain closed. Please allow extra time on your journey”
In an update at 5,43am, Inrix said the road had reopened.
