Ole Gunnar Solskjaer turned down Jadon Sancho’s request to wear the no.7 shirt which caused the delay in his unveiling at Manchester United, according to a report.
The England winger completed his £73m transfer from Borussia Dortmund on Friday as the transfer saga finally came to a close.
The Red Devils had an offer accepted from the German side for Sancho and agreed on personal terms with the player during Euro 2020, but he was not officially announced as a Man Utd man until this past weekend.
And the Daily Mail is claiming the delay in confirming his arrival was due to the 21-year-old’s desire to wear the no.7 shirt, which is occupied by Edinson Cavani, that he wore at Dortmund.

The report states that Solskjaer would not grant his request as Sancho would end up taking the no.25 jersey (2+5=7. He was also born on March 25).
Solskjaer was delighted to finally secure a deal for Sancho who makes his long-awaited arrival at Old Trafford with the transfer in the pipeline since last summer.

And the Man Utd boss reckons they have one of the best homegrown talents for the next decade or so as Sancho adds more firepower to an already exciting English core at the club linking up with the likes of Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood.
He said after United’s 4-2 friendly defeat to Queens Park Rangers: “It’s a big statement.
“We’ve followed him for a long, long time. He’s a forward with creativity, flair and individual skills. He’s got years ahead of him.
“It shows the fans we mean business. We’ve got one of the best forwards in England for the next ten, 12 years.
“We’ve got Marcus [Rashford] who’s 23 and Mason [Greenwood] who’s a young lad so we’ve got an English core there. The forward line is looking really good.”
