A man has been arrested after it is alleged he was stopped by police driving a mobility scooter erratically in Belfast following a theft.
Police received reports at around 1.30am on Thursday, July 29, that a man had entered the home of a vulnerable person in the Shore Cresecent area of North Belfast.
A number of items were taken, including a mobility scooter.
After officers arrived on the scene, police said a 47-year-old man was located “driving a mobility scooter erratically along the Shore Road”.
He was stopped and arrested on suspicion of a number of offences, including burglary and driving while unfit due to drink or drugs.
A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police in north Belfast have arrested a 47 year old man following the report of a burglary in the early hours of Thursday 29th July.
“Officers received a report at around 1.30am, that a man had entered the home of a vulnerable person in the Shore Crescent area and stolen a number of items, including an electric mobility scooter.
“A response crew was sent to the area immediately and located a male driving a scooter erratically along the Shore Road. Officers stopped with the man and arrested him on suspicion of a number of offences including burglary with intent to steal and driving when unfit through drink or drugs.
“The items stolen from the house were recovered along with the scooter and have since been returned to the victim. The man is currently in custody assisting officers with their enquiries.
“Detectives are now progressing this matter and would ask anyone with information about the incident or anyone who may have captured dash-cam footage in the Shore Crescent/Shore Road area at the time of the incident, to contact them in Musgrave station on 101 quoting reference number 91 29/07/21.
