Cristiano Ronaldo's comments on playing for Man City as shock transfer links emerge

Cristiano Ronaldo’s comments on playing for Man City as shock transfer links emerge

Cristiano Ronaldo’s past comments on Manchester City makes it seem the surprise transfer links won’t lead to anything.

City are looking for a big name striker this summer after Sergio Aguero left the club for Barcelona and it is thought Ronaldo is leaving current side Juventus.

The Italian club are understood to not be able to afford the football legend’s wages due to the financial hit they’ve taken during the pandemic.

Other rumours had suggested the star was headed back to former club Manchester United but it’s now been widely reported that he could sign for their rivals.

Ronaldo first spoke about City rumours all the way back in 2013 where he was far from keen to join the club.

He said: “To play for City not United? I’m not going to do that. Why? Because my heart’s in Manchester United, that’s why.

“I can say it would be very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very difficult to play at Manchester City. Very difficult because of Manchester United.”

Ronaldo isn’t the only target on City’s radar this summer as they are also looking at Borussia Dormund’s Erling Haaland and Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane.

However those two stars may also be unavailable as it seems Haaland will remain at the Bundesliga side and Kane’s deal would cost the club a hefty price.

City are putting together a plan to afford the England captain but it will involve having to let go of another star.

Raheem Sterling, Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez and Gabriel Jesus are amongst those in contention to be offered in a part-exchange, according to L’Equipe.

Kane is keen to depart his boyhood club and spoke about the situation earlier this year.

He told Gary Neville’s YouTube channel The Overlap: “I think it’s definitely a conversation to be had with the club. I want to be playing in the biggest games. The biggest moments.

“Like, this season I’m there watching the Champions League, watching the English teams in there doing amazing.

“They are the games that I want to be involved in. I want to be in them games.

“So for sure, it’s a moment in my career where I have to kind of reflect and see where I’m at and have a good, honest conversation with the chairman. I hope that we can have that conversation.

“I’m sure that he’ll want to set out the plan of where he sees it but ultimately it’s going to be down to me and how I feel and what’s going to be the best for me and my career in this moment in time.

“I hope we have a good enough relationship. I’ve given the club… well, I’ve been there 16 years of my life.

“So, I hope that we can have a good, honest conversation and see where we are at in that aspect.”
